Perfectionism and interpersonal problems revisited

In 1997, Hill and colleagues published a seminal study investigating the interpersonal quality of self-oriented, other-oriented, socially prescribed perfectionism using circumplex as framework. Findings indicated three forms showed different relationships with both traits problems, but also suggested that these were gender-specific. Revisiting et al.'s findings, present reexamined how related to tested whether reliable gender differences, in sample 391 Prolific workers (195 men, 196 women; mean age = 37.1 years). Circumplex analyses confirmed problems. However, stronger more differentiated than those only elevated levels distress. Whereas few differences observed, self-oriented had distinctive (assured–dominant) not women.
